Today’s post I’m giving my opinion on a murder mystery that I have recently finished: The secret of the pendant an easy, mystery and quick read for the summer. I’m not gonna I didn’t know anything about this book when I started it, I have just read the title and saw the cover and I was sold.
Title: The secret of the pendant
Author: Olivia Swift
Publication date: June 28th 2018
Corby Santana is a woman that has had a hard life, and now that her abusive ex-husband is behind bars, seems that Corby is beginning to enjoy a new life. She is working with her friend in a shop and has done some new friends. One day, two lawyers show up in the shop and tell her that she has inherited a house from her uncle, one that hasn’t been in her life for a long time and was determined to leave the house and a pendant in the hands of a woman of the family. When Corby went there to check out the place things get weird, the pendant will start getting hot and someone has been digging her cellar floor.
This is the fifth installment in a series and I haven’t read any of the previous ones but I found it easy to read, not being lost and picking up on details from other books quite easily.
I liked Corby a lot, I could connect with her. Seemed like she had a very hard past and life and now she is trying to let herself loose and enjoy what she has accomplished, the friends she has gained and the freedom she has. I felt sorry for her because her husband had really hurt her and she couldn’t go into her own house without feeling a little fear. I enjoyed reading the relationship that ignited with Carlo, and how well matched were for each other. I also like the friendships that were portrait and how everyone supported each other.
Though I liked the plot I found it that everything was going too fast and that the great mystery behind everything was solved in just two seconds. In addition, I could see the final coming miles ahead, as the author did give away a detail that made me suspect that this was going to happen. Don’t get me wrong I did enjoy it and wanted to know what was going to happen.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t a big fan of the writing style. There was a lot of silence dialogue, as the characters would talk to each other but instead of in a dialogue the author would explain the conversation. I don’t know if I make it clear but it was a bit awkward.
