Title: Hunger Moon (The Huntress/FBI Thrillers #5)
Author: Alexandra Sokoloff
Publication date: October 24th 2017
Genre: Adult, Mystery, Thriller
What is it about?
Revenge has no limits.
Special Agent Matthew Roarke has abandoned his rogue search for serial killer Cara Lindstrom. He’s returned to the FBI to head a task force with one mission: to rid society of its worst predators. But as the skeletal symbols of Santa Muerte, “Lady Death,” mysteriously appear at universities nationwide, threatening death to rapists, Roarke’s team is pressured to investigate. When a frat boy goes missing in Santa Barbara, Roarke realizes a bloodbath is coming—desperate teenagers are about to mete out personal, cold-blooded justice.
Hiding from the law, avenging angel Cara Lindstrom is on her own ruthless quest. She plans to stay as far away from Roarke as possible—until an old enemy comes after both her and the FBI, forcing her back into Roarke’s orbit. This time, the huntress has become the hunted…
This is my very first book I have read from Alexandra Sokoloff , and though there are minor spoilers for the previous books in the series I was totally sucked in the story. This was a fantastic suspenseful, emotional and thought-provoking book that grabs you from the very first page and makes you think hard about all the events that are happening.
Cara Lindstrom, a serial murderess, has jumped bail and is on the run hiding from all the hunters that are now looking for her. In the meantime, there is a feminist movement happening all around the country, trying to fight and end rape culture. Different universities are being targeted and now rapist has been threatened. In a movement control by power Roarke and his team are sent to investigate one specific attack. Why this one in particular?
Captivating and realistic setting
I love a book that makes you think past what is happening in the story to what is actually happening in the world. In this case, the rape culture, the elections, the fight to end human trafficking… I had all the emotions when I was reading this, I was heartbroken with the personal stories of survivors of rape and I was angry and infuriated with the response from institutions and rapist and men.
Great and real characters
In addition to making you think hard about the circumstances around you, the characters seemed so real. The FBI agents sent to investigate have a moral versus work fight. On the one hand, they, are in favor of the threat made to rapist and the universities that have left the victims without security, on the other hand, they need to do their job.
I really enjoyed Cara, though I didn’t get some parts (maybe it was explained in a previous book) she was a fighter and a kickass woman. It was very interesting to read from the point of view of the murder and her motivations to act that way. It humanized her, especially when you understand why she does it.
This was a fantastic read that I highly recommend for any thriller lover.
